WhenRE is off (default), the drive firmware isexecuted from FLASHmemory. When the drive is shipped with RE ON,the firmware isexecuted from an internal microprocessor ROM.TE TerminationEnable Jumper----------------------------One of the requirements of the SCSI bus isthat it be terminated withproper termination resistors. If more than onehard disk device isconnected to the host, the last one must beterminated. The TE(Termination Enable) jumper, when installed,connects terminatingresistors to the SCSI bus. With the TE jumperoff, no resistors areconnected.EP Enable ParityJumper------------------------The Enable Parity (EP) jumper controls paritychecking across theSCSI bus. With parity checking enabled, thedrive performs paritychecking. With parity checking disabled, thedrive continues togenerate parity information, but not performparity checking.At the factoryQuantum configures the Empire 540/1080S hard diskdrive with parity enables; that is, with ajumper installed acrossthe pins labeled EP. To disable paritychecking, remove the jumperfrom the EP pins.WS Wait/Spin Jumper--------------------With the Wait/Spin (WS) jumper disabled, at apower on or reset, thedrive motor starts to spin automatically, andthe drive preparesitself to perform read or write operationswithout the need for astart command. At a power or reset, with theWait/Spin jumperenabled, the host must send a START/STOP UNITcommand to activate thedrive motor for read or write operations. Inaddition, with the W/Sjumper enabled, the drive performs powersequencing to prevent anoverload of the host's power supply due tosimultaneous, peak start-up current demands from multiple devices.At the factory,Quantum configures the Empire 540/1080S hard diskdrive with the Wait/spin jumper disabled; thatis, without a jumperinstalled across the pins labeled WS. Toenable the Wait/spin jumper,install a jumper across the WS pins.A2/A1/A0 SCSI-BusDevice Identification----------------------------------------Used in combination, the jumper settingsacross A2, A1, and A0 de-termine the Empire 540/1080S hard disk drive'sSCSI-bus deviceidentification (SCSI ID). To avoid stripping themounting-hole threads,the maximum torque applied to the screws mustnot exceed 8 inch-pounds.Clearance---------The printed-circuit board assembly (PCBA) isvery close to themounting holes. Clearance from the drive toany other surface -except mounting surfaces - must be 2.6millimeters (0.10 inches)minimum.
